Prepare to experience an intellectual and emotional journey while watching Mr.Nobody! The film is full of themes of existentialism, choices and their consequences, and life in general. The exquisite sets, cinematography, and soundtrack all play their part in creating a very magical and surreal atmosphere that immerses you into the world of the movie.

The story starts off in 2092 where humans have discovered how to renew their body cells and hence achieve immortality. There is only one ‘mortal’ left in the world; a 118 year old man named Nemo Nobody (played by Jared Leto). He is gradually edging towards his death which is gathering the attention of many people around the world. Nemo recounts the story of his life to a reporter and this is what the majority of the film is about.

118 year-old Nemo Nobody

The stunning visuals and beautiful imagery are really the heart of the film. The movie really gives off some ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ vibes. Coming back to the story, Nemo recounts his life at 3 primary stages. The reporter eventually notices that many of Nemo’s statements about his life are contradictory. And this is the very core of the film! It shows how different his life would have been based on decisions he took at these 3 points.

Thus, the power of choices in life is a major theme of Mr.Nobody. Through the film, we get to realize that each or our actions, no matter how small they may seem to be, play a significant part in shaping our lives. Moreover, the film is full of emotion as we get to witness Nemo go through a plethora of events like witnessing his parents’ divorce as a child and falling in love as a teenager. This theme of choices is smartly echoed in the film’s visuals as well. In fact, symbolism is an integral part of the film’s storytelling technique.

It should be pretty clear now that Mr.Nobody is quite a mind bending movie. The story branches into multiple sub-stories depicting the various ways Nemo’s life would turn out based on his differing choices. Moreover, these sub-stories are not completely discrete. There is some overlapping between them. And too add the icing on the cake; the movie narrative does not progress in a linear fashion! So prepare for a very intellectually stimulating yet rewarding watch.

The film also has many philosophical tones. The ‘Butterfly Effect’ is a prominent aspect i.e. small causes can have large effects. Mr.Nobody also explores the notion of existentialism and what it means to be alive.

Mr.Nobody is a movie that celebrates life and its glory. It deals with multiple themes and balances them with great finesse. Moreover, It makes us realize that every single action in our life is significant. No matter what path we take, everything that happens to us is important as it adds to our whole ‘life’ experience. As Nemo says in the film, “Every path is the right path. Everything could’ve been anything else. And it would have just as much meaning.”
